IMPORTANT UPDATE: School will not reopen this school year
April 17, 2020
Dear Achievement Prep Families,
We hope you and your families are healthy, practicing social distance and finding time to take care of self through this unusual time.
During the Mayor’s Press Conference today, Mayor Bowser shared that due to COVID-19, District public schools will not reopen for this school year and distance learning will continue in the District.
We understand that DCPS will end its school year on May 29th, but the Mayor mistakenly said all charter schools would close on or close to that date as well. Achievement Prep, along with every other public charter school in the District, are autonomous and determine their own school schedule. We are meeting as a team and will communicate our end date for the school year early next week.
While we continue to navigate these difficult times together, the city, and Achievement Prep, are considering many additional learning options like summer school, early start to next school year, and/or a longer school year. When details have been determined, we will share information about those options.
This is an unprecedented time for our city, our school, and our families. But what has made our school community strong is our unwavering commitment to our scholars. That commitment will continue while we teach and learn from home, and it will continue when we are able to come together again.
Meals for scholars will still be available through the remainder of this pandemic. For more information on meal sites, please visit coronavirus.dc.gov/food.
Thank you for the support and grace you have shown throughout this unusual time. Because of you, scholars have continued to grow and learn from home. We will continue to update you on what the public health guidance will mean for your family and our school community. If you have additional questions, please contact us at the school:
Elementary School, 202-562-1307 or ESremote@achievementprep.org
Middle School, 202-562-1214 or MSremote@achievementprep.org
Sincerely,
Achievement Prep
