Achievement Prep and KaBOOM! Playground Build Day

On Thursday, September 3rd, Achievement Prep, KaBOOM! and The CarMax Foundation will partner to bring play to Washington, D.C. kids through the construction of a new playspace at Achievement Prep.Playground

Achievement Prep, a high-achieving public charter school network with campuses in Ward 8, is in the process of redeveloping our Wahler Place Campus to
better serve the needs of our 730 scholars, grades Kindergarten through 8. The KaBOOM! playspace will augment the renovation and new construction, allowing scholars and children from our community better access to the play they deserve. Like KaBOOM!, Achievement Prep believes that scholars have unlimited potential and is committed to expanding opportunities in the classroom and in play. In building this playground together, we will help Washington, D.C. become more playable by making it easier for more than 1,100 kids to get the play they need to grow and thrive and will strengthen the resources available to residents of Ward 8.

The playground build begins early in the morning with volunteers arriving at an empty site. Within hours, KaBOOM! leads volunteers in transforming the space to a vibrant neighborhood-gathering place. At the ribbon cutting ceremony at 2:30, we will celebrate the completion of the day’s work and the creation of our new playspace. Together, we can give all kids the play-filled childhood they deserve and help them grow into healthy and successful adults.

We hope you will join us for Build Day at 7:45 am! For more information, see our media release. Please contact Sarah Jemison, Special Projects Fellow, with any questions at sjemison@achievementprep.org or 202-562-1214, ex. 152.
